Historically the 996 has been the controversial and less loved Porsche, but that has started to change and it’s really coming into its own, to quote from 911 & Porsche Worlds article “there’s a reason why many Porsche specialists run a 996”. Sort the IMS issue out and they are brilliant cars; not just reliable but superb drivers cars, offering incredible performance & handling…and that noise! Prices have steadily risen for good examples and with Turbo’s now nearer £50,000, these wide bodied C4S’s are fast appreciating modern classics.

The Carrera 4S is the one to have, sharing the same wide body, brakes & suspension as the Turbo…and to quote another motoring journalist “it’s a Turbo without the fear factor”. Add a desirable manual gearbox, sports exhaust, silver over black leather, turbo twist wheels and a well sorted low mileage engine & we think this is the spec to have as well.

The 3.6 Flat Six engine, driven through a superb 6 speed manual gearbox produces 315 bhp and boasts a top speed of 179 mph with a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds.

This example is in great condition all round, drives superbly and sounds incredible. The file documents a well looked after car with service history showing a brand new engine (with a newer IMS) fitted by JCT Porsche under warranty at 36,000 miles, so although the odometer shows 89,700 miles the engine has covered just 53,000 miles. The new engine, as well as having a newer IMS, has benefitted from having a borescope carried out & all the associated and necessary maintenance carried out, again; all well documented and supported with invoices and reports.
