1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Estate – rare petrol 7-seater

The W124 Mercedes is widely considered to be ‘peak Mercedes engineering’ and often lauded as one of the best cars ever made; designed with a strong emphasis on durability & practicality as well as performance. The styling has stood the test of time, as has a great many of the cars – ‘built to last, they’ll go for ever if properly maintained’. The petrol engines offered a more balanced blend of performance and fuel efficiency, with plenty of power alongside a refined ride and driving experience; but with the greater fuel economy offered by the diesels the petrols were ordered in lower numbers and are now a rare find.

The 3.2 L Inline-6 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic delivers a very respectable 217 bhp and a top speed of 140 mph, with the wonderful ride that the self-levelling hydro pneumatic rear suspension gives these will happily cruise all day – and you can take 6 along for the ride, with the applauded Mercedes 7-seater seating configuration. Does anyone else remember kids waving out of the back window?

Finished in Azure Blue over Grey Leather, the exterior would benefit from some cosmetic tidying; specifically bubbling on the drivers font arch and age related marks such as to the bumper paint. The interior is in great condition, no splits to the dash, woods in good condition, tidy headlining, great door cards and carpets, including Mercedes over mats.

These were often ordered as a base model, because base was pretty well spec’d; but not this one, as well as the usual refinements it was ordered with:

· Electric sunroof

· Mercedes 8 hole Alloys

· Front Airbags (passenger was an option)

· AMG Performance steering wheel

· Tinted Glass

· Burr Walnut trim

· Roof Rack

· 7 Seat configuration with rear facing ‘jump seats’

As testament to the design, engineering and build quality W124’s have often covered 250,000 miles+ and this example has done a little over 171,500 miles; featured by Classic Mercedes Magazine in 2021, they stated “Key to the longevity of this car has been regular servicing ( 24 times in 26 years) by official Mercedes Dealers and Independents, with just a few non-specialist stamps. There are also many invoices from the last 10 years for expenditure including new genuine Mercedes wings, head gasket, suspension arms, engine wiring loom, coil packs, hydraulic suspension struts and a gearbox rebuild”.

The car was supplied in April 2021 by Cheshire Classic Benz, the renown Mercedes Specialist in Macclesfield Cheshire who had used the car as their own for several years, the next owner then sold it in our main auction for £5,980 in July 2022.

Continuing its history of being well maintained the following recent works have been carried out:

2022- replaced coil pack

2023

-full service

-new battery

-heater blower removed/serviced

-replaced water pump.

2024

· Welding carried out to rear requiring stripping out of the interior

· OVB relay replaced

· 4 new Michelin Cross Climate tyres

2025

· New MAF sensor lead fitted

Having covered very little mileage in recent years and with the last 12 months spent completely unused, it’s ready for recommissioning and to be returned to the road; running & driving well, with 4 recent new tyres and welding attended to in 2024, we suspect minimum work would be required.

We think this is the perfect practical modern classic; a wonderful interior with acres of space for 7 passengers, high specification, a fabulous driving experience, Merc’s legendary build quality and and super service history.
