1956 VW Beetle 1200 Deluxe – Very rare car in superb & highly original condition

1956 1200 Deluxe Oval Beetle – a very rare car in superb & highly original condition.

Finished in Jungle Green, produced for only one year, and still wearing mostly original paint, this Swedish import is correctly UK registered, Tax and MOT exempt and ULEX compliant.
Unusually it retains its matching numbers body and chassis as well as original ‘split case’ transmission with non synchro first gear, 6v electrics and semaphore indicators.

Subject to a meticulous body off underside restoration, it was a very solid car to start with requiring only a small repair to the battery tray and some heater channel and bumper mount repairs and, incredibly, the floor pans are still original.

Once repaired the underside was completely stripped, treated then painted in body colour, the chassis has been left in its original black finish and treated/waxoiled.

While the body was off all the necessary mechanical bits were refurbished or replaced either using original parts or rebuilding. New brakes were installed and the master cylinder upgraded to a late and safer dual circuit one and new cables have also been installed.
Staying true to the originality, 4 new Camac Crossply tyres have been fitted.

It’s running the correct ‘fixed pedestal’ 30hp engine which has been subject to all mechanical works required, including new piston rings, heads refurbished, new clutch, new exhaust, and ignition system with the original carburettor, fuel pump and distributor having been rebuilt.

Externally the paint has been blended and polished to a great finish, new window rubbers fitted and any area that needed attention had the parts stripped, cleaned and preserved.

The interior is in incredible condition for its age, not only retaining its original headlining and seat covers but the accessory parcel shelf is still fitted and it even has period 2-point seatbelts fitted in the front.

For the cherry on the cake it has retained some rare and charming period features, such as an original Hazel Tourist tool kit, a dealer fit Nieman steering lock, which still works and Ski Racks are still fitted to the rear bumper from its time in Sweden.

The DVLA shows just 9 1956 Beetles still on the road and we think this one is special; a really rare, highly original, very straight, solid, honest survivor car that has been mechanically sorted to the highest standard and drives as well as it looks!
